Description
The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang was an American long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber used during World War II, the Korean War and several other conflicts. During World War II, Mustang pilots claimed 4, 950 enemy aircraft shot down, second only to the Grumman F6F Hellcat among Allied aircraft. This specific P51 model is painted as "Kitten" or Charles McGee's airplane. This model is also personally signed by Charles McGee. McGee was a member of the Tuskegee Airmen, who were the first African American military aviators in the United States armed forces. During World War II, African Americans in many U.S. states still were subject to racist Jim Crow laws. The American military was racially segregated, as was much of the federal government. The Tuskegee Airmen were subject to racial discrimination, both within and outside the army. Despite these adversities, they trained and flew with distinction. McGee was a career officer in the United States Air Force for 30 years, he holds an Air Force record of 409 fighter combat missions flown in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Certificate of Authenticity included. This handcrafted model is painstakingly built from Philippine mahogany by our skilled craftsmen with a wealth of detail and makes a great gift for any veteran, aviation enthusiast or history buff.
