It had become a place of Marian devotion whereprayers were said in honor of the Blessed Virgin. By thetwelfth century, the Order of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel wasfounded and a church was built on the ascent of themountain to honor her. This place of honor remains todaya spiritual center for all religious vocations following theexample of our Lady.The tradition of our Lady of Mount Carmel tells usthat St. Simon Stock, a Carmelite friar, was in Aylesford, England, praying to the Blessed Virgin when she appeared tohim. Our lady was holding her Immaculate Son in her leftarm and was wearing a brown gown with a white mantel andshe was holding a brown scapular.
