- ABOUT SPINDLES: Spindles may look rather sturdy. However, the precision bearings inside rolling element spindles are very susceptible to mishandling. The bearing sets are preloaded so all forces on the shaft are transmitted through the rolling elements. Even relatively minor radial or axial impacts to the spindle shaft can cause Brinelling with subsequent rapid deterioration of the bearings condition.
- RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MOWER SPINDLE: Never strike a spindle. Never transmit static force through the rolling elements. Always protect spindles from vibrations. Shafts on fluid element spindles should never be rotated unless the spindle is properly floated . When installing pulleys or other devices on the shaft always take time to properly support the shaft.
- VARIABLES FOR SPINDLE BEARING: There are a lot of variables here; material, chip load, balance, all have an impact on bearing life. Obviously the lighter the work load and the better the tool balance, the longer the bearing life. During every tool change the operator should carefully spin the shaft and see if there is anything that does not feel right. It takes about 5 seconds so don t worry about wasting any time.
- IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Doubling speed reduces bearing life by one half. To avoid buying the wrong one, please make sure that your size information and model match your lawn mower.
