This ready to hang, gallery-wrapped art piece features the moon hanging over a foggy landscape. Caspar Friedrich, besides being a Romantic, was a pioneer of the symbolic landscape. He used trees, mist, mountains and the light of sunset to symbolize Christian religious themes in a sort of mysterious mood. At the time, this represented a major break from traditional, representational Biblical scenes.
