Description

  1. Grown, packaged and shipped exclusively by Florida Foliage. Prized for its spectacular display of fragrant, bright yellow flowers, this well-mannered vine climbs beautifully on a trellis, arbor or over fences and walls without smothering surrounding trees and shrubs. Allow to sprawl unsupported across slopes and banks as an informal, mounding ground cover. Evergreen to semi-evergreen.
  2. This emerald green vine is famous for adapting to chain-link fences. It climbs up quickly without training and then cascades off the opposite side to create a waterfall of bright yellow blossoms in spring. It can disguise fences around tennis courts, swimming pools and even corrals. Often combined with other deciduous flowering vines to extend its season of color.
  3. Thrives in enriched, slightly acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soil. Water deeply, regularly during first growing season to establish extensive root system. Provide support such as trellis or arbor, or allow to ramble on the ground. Prune annually to control size. Sap may irritate; protect skin when pruning. Pruning time: spring after flowering.
  4. Carolina Jessamine vines are covered with clusters of fragrant, yellow flowers in late winter and spring. The flowers are followed by seed capsules that ripen slowly over the remainder of the season. If you want to collect a few seeds to start new plants, pick the capsules in fall after the seeds inside have turned brown. Air dry them for three or four days and then remove the seeds. They are easy to start indoors in late winter or outdoors in late spring when the soil is thoroughly warm.
  5. These sprawling vines are native to the Southeastern United States where winters are mild and summers are hot. They tolerate an occasional frost, but persistent freezes kill them. Carolina Jessamine is rated for USDA plant hardiness zones 7 through 9.
