- Sodium Bicarbonate USP Grade 5 is a white Coarse Granule that is stable in dry air but decomposes slowly in moist air. 1 g dissolves in 20 ml of water and resulting solution is clear. It has a slightly alkaline taste and is insoluble in alcohol. Baking Soda's pH value at 1 in an aqueous solution at 77 F is 8.3.
- A white crystalline powder. It is stable in dry air, but slowly decomposes in moist air. Its solutions, when freshly prepared with cold water, without shaking, are alkaline to litmus. The alkalinity increases as the solutions stand, are agitated or are heated.
