Description

The fret flattening kit used to find and level high frets to optimize your guitar's set up or remove fret buzz. The kit is composed of a hardwood sanding block crowned to fit most frets , a 3", 2" and 1-1/2" straight solid steel pins to check for high frets, a piece of 220 and 400 grit sandpaper, and a small piece of steel wool. The pins are used to check flatness of the frets relative to each other. The 2" pin is for frets 12- 20 and the 1-1/2" dowel is for frets 21-24 where they are closer together. Place the pin across three frets and try to rock it back and forth. A clicking sound will reveal a high fret. Mask off the fingerboard with tape and lightly sand down the fret using the hardwood sanding block starting with 220 and progress to 400 grit sandpaper. Check for flatness with the pin again. When level, polish with 0000 steel wool. The sanding block can be easily modified to fit almost any fret wire. Place the sandpaper rough side up on the fingerboard over the fret. Rub the concave groove on the bottom of the block on the sandpaper on the fret until the shape mimics the fret. If the groove becomes too deep just sand off some material from the bottom, enough to keep it from touching the fingerboard, and you are ready to go! Kit is not used for neck flattening.
